In reply Weirs were always slightly behind the run rate as the Ayr bowlers kept a tight control of the innings and restricted them to 276-8, with Kenroy Peters pick of the bowlers finishing with figures of 2-27.

Ferguslie win in last over

Ayr completed their pre-season warm ups with a narrow defeat to reigning Western Union Campions Ferguslie at Cambusdoon. Ayr batted first and posted a respectable 191-9 in their 40 overs. The innings did not get off to the best of starts with Matthew Baines falling early, but a stand of fifty between Richie Borland (57) and Lloyd Jefferson (27) got the innings back on track. Once Jefferson had departed, bowled by Ahmed, there was a bit of a batting collapse before skipper Andi McElnea joined Borland and continued his fine form from the previous day with another fine knock finishing on 60 not out.

When the visitors batted they were also in early trouble as Pushkar Bhandari claimed the wicket of Brian Shaw. As the bowlers kept a tight reign on the run rate with some accurate bowling Ferguslie always appeared to be in control with the dangerous Taimoor Ahmed (80) at the wicket, but on his departure it was left to the experienced  Tim Preston-Jones (46) to see them over the line as they reached their target with only three balls to spare.

Defeat to Uddingston in season opener

The 2019 season began with a warm up match at home to a strong Uddingston team. The visitors batted first and Scott McElnea claimed the early wicket of former  teammate Anwar Hafeez, getting  some movement off the wicket to bowl him with only two on the board. Muhammed Awais then took control of the innings, punishing any loose bowling as he reached 103 before retiring. He received good support from Fergus Clarke (66) as they reached 263-5 in their 40 overs, The Ayr reply did not get off to a great start losing Niall McCrossin and Pushkar Bhandari  in successive balls in the second over. Captain Andi McElnea with an excellent 83 led a slight recovery but on his departure a flurry of wickets saw the innings end as they were bowled out for 159.
