Ayr end season with victory at Irvine
Ayr made the short journey up the coast to take on Irvine at Marress in their final game of the 2021 season. The home team batted first and got off to a slow start against some tight Ayr bowling. Once the initial breakthrough was made wickets began to fall at regular intervals with Ayr spinners Andi McElnea and Callum Leck each claiming two wickets and going for a miserly 15 runs between them in the 14 overs they bowled. Leck finishing with 2-9 from his 8 overs and McElnea 2-6 from his 6 overs. With Irvine still struggling to get any impetus into their innings Scott McElnea returned to the attack and quickly polished up the tail as they were bowled out for 104, McElnea finishing with figures of 3-14.
Ayr’s reply got off to a decent start before Lloyd Jefferson was bowled for fourteen by Dees, but fellow opener Michael English continued his excellent performance this season, top scoring with 43 and sharing in a partnership of 60 with Jonny Baines (26) before falling LBW to Abbas with only eight runs required for victory, which were duly scored next over, with young Jake Woodhouse hitting the winning runs as they reached 105-4 to win by six wickets.

Kelburne win to end unbeaten run
There was disappointment at Cambusdoon on Saturday as Ayr lost their unbeaten record in the Western Union First Division with a narrow defeat to second place Kelburne in a closely fought game. The visitors won the toss and decided to bat but were soon in trouble as Nari Bhandari struck early removing Miller for one. The Ayr bowlers continued to keep control of the game picking up regular wickets with Andi McElnea removing the dangerous Sheikh for 22 and brother Scott clean bowling the in form O’Connell for a duck. Jamie Cook (39) then led a slight recovery, but with wickets still falling at the other end, Kelburne were bowled out for 162. Nari Bhandari pick of the bowlers finishing with 4-39.
The Ayr reply did not get off to the best of starts losing Michael English for five, but Lloyd Jefferson and skipper Andi McElnea steadied the ship before Jefferson was next to fall, followed soon after by Neil Logan, who was involved in a tight run out. As wickets continued to fall a stand between Niall McCrossin and Matty Baines gave Ayr glimmer of hope with only 60 required and plenty of overs to get them in, but when McCrossin pulled a half tracker to deep midwicket their chances vanished as they were eventually bowled out for 141 to give Kelburne victory by 21 runs and maintain chance of promotion with one match remaining.

Ayr Promoted after victory against Stenhousemuir
Champagne corks were popping at Cambusdoon on Saturday night as Ayr secured promotion to the Western Union Premiership with a convincing 86 run victory at home to Stenhousemuir. Batting first after winning another toss the Ayr innings did not get off to the best of starts losing Michael English in the very first over before anyone had troubled the scorers. It was left to Lloyd Jefferson who has played a more than useful understudy in the scoring stakes this season to English to take the lead role with an excellent 55 to lead the revival as Ayr finished their innings on 209-9. Jefferson had good support from Matthew McClymont (34) before the lower order of Matty Baines, Jake Woodhouse and Nari Bhandari all chipped in with useful contributions.
When Stenny came to bat they were in trouble from the outset with opening bowlers Nari Bhandari and Scott McElnea doing what they have done all season with each claiming an early wicket. McElnea and fellow bowlers English and Leck then continued to make inroads into the Stenny batting as they were reduced to 50-6, before the visitors rallied slightly, but McElnea was then re-introduced into the attack to polish off the innings finishing with the superb figures of 6-9, cleaning bowling MacKay to seal promotion and according to club mathematicians the Championship, though this has still to be confirmed.

Victory at Helensburgh brings promotion a step closer
Ayr moved a step closer to promotion to the Western Union Premier Division with an emphatic win away to Helensburgh. With a much-changed team from last week, which included five players from the U16’s, Ayr got off to the perfect start running out Arachchi with only five on the board and then opening bowlers Scott McElnea and Nari Bhandari struck to reduce Helensburgh to 15-3. It was then the turn of the young guns with Robbie Walsh, Chris Hill and Jake Woodhouse all claiming wickets as the home team were skittled out for 65 in only 22 overs. Walsh finishing with figures of 3-21.
Michael English (43 no) then set about the Helensburgh attack as Ayr raced to their target in only nine overs to maintain their 100% record, finishing off the innings with a six.

Rain stops play
For only the second time this season rain was the winner as only 9.4 overs were possible at Cambusdoon where Renfrew were the visitors. In the short time played Ayr had made a promising start with opening bowlers Scott McElnea and Nari Bhandari both striking to remove the Renfrew openers and leave them struggling at 21-2 when the heavens opened and end the match.

Jefferson century sets up Ayr victory
Ayr were at home to East Renfrewshire on Saturday in what should have been an away fixture but due to problems with the visitors ground the match was re-arranged to Cambusdoon. Skipper Andi McElnea won the toss and decided to bat in the slightly overcast conditions and after two overs may have had second thoughts on his decision as they were taken off the field for rain by the umpires with the score 19-0, but the skies soon cleared, and play resumed after a 20 minute break. On resumption of play the Ayr openers took the attack to the East Renfrewshire bowlers. At the break Lloyd Jefferson had not faced a ball but in quick time he had overtaken fellow opener Michael English (25) and was on 47 when English departed with the total on 74. and soon raced to his hundred in only 66 balls. When he was out soon after for 104, the remaining batsmen all made useful contributions with Puskar Bhandari (40), Scott McElnea (35) and Matthew McClymont and Matthew Baines both adding 25, all keeping the scoreboard moving on at a decent rate, plus a useful 14 not from Callum Leck in the last over as they finished on 328-9 in their 50 overs.
The East Renfrewshire innings did not get off to a great start with Nari Bhandari striking with the first ball of the second over before Scott McElnea took charge of proceedings with some fast aggressive bowling, claiming five wickets in three overs to leave the visitors struggling at 29-6, and then 52-8 as Leck and Baines were introduced into the attack, and both claimed wickets. At 72-9 after Baines had claimed his second wicket it seemed only a matter of time until the match would be over, but the last pair batted as though they should have been at the opposite end of the batting order showing more composure and a better technique than their teammates as they put on 89 for the last wicket before Pushkar Bhandari brought an end to proceedings by clean bowling Sarwat as East Renfrewshire were bowled out for 161, leaving Ayr victors by 167 runs and still well clear of nearest challengers East Kilbride.

Victory in top of table clash
Ayr maintained their position at the top of the Western Union First Division when they recorded a comfortable victory over nearest challengers Drumpellier at Cambusdoon on Saturday. The visitors won the toss and chose to bat but were soon in trouble losing both openers with only 19 on the board as opening bowlers McElnea and Bhandari each claimed wickets and were in deeper trouble losing two more wickets to the same pair with the total at 40. There was then a slight recovery between Allison and Higenbottom who had taken the score to 75 before Callum Leck struck, taking three wickets in one over to leave Drumpellier reeling 75-8, eventually being bowled out for 107. Callum Leck and Scott McElnea finishing with the identical figures of 3-31 and two wickets each for Nari Bhandari and Matt Baines.
The Ayr reply did not get off to the most auspicious start losing Jefferson and Andi McElnea cheaply, but with Michael English (88no) again in imperious form the result was never in doubt as they reached their target without losing any further wickets in under 20 overs. English’s innings containing 10 x 4 and 3 x 6.

Victory in Local Derby
On Saturday Ayr welcomed Irvine to a sun drenched Cambusdoon, which for the large crowd that gathered, proved an entertaining and nervy afternoon of cricket. Jake Woodhouse making his 1st XI debut after impressing in the Cambusdoon XI.
For the first time in a number of weeks Andi McElnea lost the toss and Irvine chose to bat on what looked like a good Cambusdoon deck and fast outfield. Nari Bhandari made the first breakthrough in the 8th over trapping Hassan lbw for 21. Spinner Callum Leck was introduced into the attack early, conceding 10 runs in his first over before bagging himself two wickets in his next. Matt Baines then had skipper Ashraf, caught behind by keeper Matthew McClymont to leave the visitors on 85-4 in the 17th over. Baines and Leck then kept it tight for the next 10 overs with Leck bowling his 10 straight through finishing with the excellent figures of 2 for 26.
The skipper brought himself on and soon had Conway bowled for 15 as he and Michael English continued to bowl a tight spell not allowing the Irvine batsmen to accelerate the run rate for the next 15 overs, with Baines and English then each picking up two wickets as Irvine lost four wickets in the last nine balls to see them finish on 186-9 from their 50 overs. Baines finishing with 3-15 and Craig Sharp top scoring for the visitors with 41.
English and Lloyd Jefferson opened the batting as usual and got off to a quick start with English hitting a couple of maximums before getting caught off a full toss at slip for 23. Andi McElnea, fresh off his 50 last week, joined Jefferson and both players batted sensibly before Jefferson was caught and bowled by Safi for 29. Puskar Bhandari promoted up the order after some decent performances in the last few weeks batting, along with his skipper, found runs hard to come by with some excellent left arm spin bowling from Muthair who at one point had figures of 7 overs leaking only 4 runs. McElnea then miss timed one and was caught at extra cover for 27, followed shortly after by McClymont who was adjudged lbw. Bhandari then had a brain fade, trying to hit the ball to the beach and was bowled leaving the game delicately balanced with Ayr on 109-5 in the 30th over. Young Robbie Walsh joined his more experienced teammate Scott McElnea and played a couple of nice pulls for four before edging to slip, off the leg spinner Hassan. Matt Baines and Scott McElnea then batted superbly well for the next 10 overs. McElnea hitting a couple of big straight 6's into the sight screen to release a bit of pressure and Baines rotating strike at the other end. The Irvine captain was now rotating his bowlers to try and get the much needed wicket, but it never came and McElnea finished the job with some more hard hitting and was not out on 47 off only 28 balls with Matt Baines ending 15 not out, as they won with 8 overs left.
A win which sees them stay top of the WDCU 1st Division with 6 wins from 6 at the halfway mark of the season.

Ayr end Kelburnes Unbeaten Record
Ayr maintained their 100 % record and retained their position at the top of the Western Union First Division with victory away to Kelburne, the only other team who had made a perfect start to the League campaign. Batting first after again winning the toss, another excellent opening stand of 71 between Lloyd Jefferson (30) and Michael English (68) set them on their way. On their departure Skipper Andi McElnea (61) continued to take the attack to the Kelburne bowlers before a middle order collapse slowed their progress, only for an excellent 39 from 25 balls from Pushkar Bhandari saw them finish on a more than respectable 230-9.
When Kelburne batted Ayr got off to the perfect start with Scott McElnea again making a couple of early strikes, removing both openers. With the possible threat of rain, Andi McElnea brought both himself and fellow spinner Callum Leck into the attack to rush through some overs and try to get to twenty overs, the point where DLS comes into play and the captain himself struck to claim the third wicket, pushing the DLS target higher. Thereafter the Ayr bowlers continued to be in control with all claiming wickets as they bowled the home team out for 149 with almost ten overs remaining, to consolidate their position at the top of the League.

The Helensburgh innings did not get off to a great start with Nari Bhandari striking early, but overseas amateur Luke Smith started to rebuild the innings and it took a double strike from Callum Leck to shift the balance back in Ayr’s favour as he tempted Smith down the wicket and had him stumped by Seb Stewart. The Ayr bowling attack then took control taking wickets at regular intervals as the visitors were bowled out for 177 to give then victory by 87 runs.

Ayr gain revenge and advance in the Rowan Cup
Ayr gained revenge for their defeat last night with a narrow victory in a high scoring match at Cambusdoon. Michael English was again in excellent form as he hit a rapid 63 of 32 balls in an opening stand of 81 with Lloyd Jefferson. When English departed Scott McElnea continued the onslaught, hitting a superb 82 not out of only 41 balls as Ayr finished on 192-5 from their 20 overs.
The Prestwick reply also got off to a flyer with Chaudry and Singh continuing their good form from the previous night, before Scott McElnea induced Singh into a false stroke and he was caught at third man by Nari Bhandari. With the game delicately balanced, Michael English was brought into the attack and soon put Ayr back in control as he claimed the wickets of Gurupreet Singh (32) with a well disguised slower ball and Chaudry (60) to push the required run rate up to over ten an over. Cameos from Mark Morrison (20) and Euan McBeth (30) gave Prestwick a glimmer of hope, but once they departed the visitors chances were gone, and Ayr won by nine runs.

Prestwick advance in McCulloch Cup
Prestwick advanced to the next round with a comfortable 9 wicket victory at Cambusdoon.
