Cambusdoon pull of dramatic victory
The Cambusdoon XI won a close encounter at home to Bothwell on Saturday. In a match eventually reduced to 41 overs per side after a couple of rain breaks, the Cambusdoon men scored 204-8 with Douglas Johnstone top scoring with 92. He was well supported by Callum Leck (27) as the pair put on fifty and then George Pilley (2no) in an 84 run partnership. Due to the rain interruptions the Bothwell target was then reduced to 193 under the Duckworth/Lewis/Sterne calculations and despite the loss of a couple of early wickets appeared to be in control of the match and with Douglas Johnstone unable to bowl due to a shoulder injury, young wicket keeper Richie Simpson took off his pads to bowl two of the last three over overs with only 20 required and struck with his first ball removing Bawa (42) thanks to an excellent catch from young Ryan Parry and then ran out Baxter to leave Bothwell requiring four to win off the last ball and managed to keep them to a single as they won by 3 runs.
